Jamieson's Illustrated Guide to Edinburgh. This slim volume of 24 pages was published by Hugh Jamieson, a song publisher of 259 High Street, Edinburgh in approximately 1900. The original booklet is coming apart and there is some ink bleed but it includes more than a dozen illustrations from engravings.
Edinburgh Official Guide, 1927. Unlike Jamieson's guide, this one is the Official Guide issued by Edinburgh Corporation. It includes chapters entitled: The Romantic City; Origin & History; Edinburgh's Architectural Heritage; Art Interests, Galleries & Museums; Educational Institutions; Commerce & Manufacturers; Literary Associations; Music; Parks, Playgrounds & Pentlands; The Seven Hills; The Royal Mile; The Castle & The Palace; The Cowgate & its Environs; How to see Edinburgh. There are also 19 illustrations (including 4 in colour), 62 pages of advertisements and a Street Map (original scale approx 2.5 inches to the mile).
Street Map of ca 1930. This map is similar to the one in the 1927 guide, having been taken from a later edition. The date is estimated as 1930 as the Stenhouse housing estate is shown but Beechmount Hospital (opened in 1932) is not shown and the Craigleith Poor House is shown (it became the Western General Hospital in 1932).
Guide to The Royal Mile, 1934. This item was published by the Scottish Motor Traction Co Ltd and is dated to 1934 by a stamp which shows that it was issued for the Annual Outing of the Peterborough & North Northants Conservative & Unionist Association in June of that year. It takes the form of a large scale sketch map of the Royal Mile showing the locations (with many illustrations) of prominent buildings.
Street Map of ca 1935. The scale of the original map is approx 3.5 inches to the mile. It is dated by the fact that it shows St Andrews House (opened in 1937) as an outline only, rather than an existing building. Please note the map is digital on a disc.
